De-lidding specialists
I am one of the few console specialists to implement liquid metal thermal interfaces as part of my PS3 thermal management process, providing significantly improved heat transfer and long-term cooling performance over conventional thermal compounds.
My CELL processor delidding methodology is widely recognised within the PS3 repair community for its precision, low-risk approach, and consistent results. These techniques have been adopted by other technicians and are regarded as a benchmark for safe CELL heat spreader removal.
I am also currently collaborating with NSC Modz to further refine and bring his professional PS3 delidding tool to market through Retro Consoles. This enables me to utilise one of the most controlled and purpose-designed mechanical solutions available for CELL delidding.
Combined with specialised sealant-softening techniques and controlled mechanical separation, this approach allows for the safe removal of the CELL heat spreader while minimising substrate stress and risk to surrounding components — ensuring the highest possible standard of reliability and thermal performance.
Professional rework
I work in close collaboration with specialist technicians to deliver professional-grade BGA rework on PlayStation 3 motherboards, ensuring consistent, high-reliability results across all major structural repairs.
A significant portion of the Frankenstein RSX conversions (90nm to 40nm) on customers’ existing consoles are carried out by Shaun Cosway of Console Tec, whose work meets the stringent process and quality standards required for this level of re-engineering. For consoles that I fully refurbish and supply directly, this rework is completed in-house as part of a comprehensive restoration workflow, including board-level inspection, thermal optimisation, and long-duration stress testing.
